Emotional Wellness Through Mindfulness: Letting Go of Anger

Anger is a natural human emotion. It rises quickly, often like a storm — our heart races, our breath shortens, and our words or actions may come out sharper than we intend. While anger itself is not wrong, holding onto it harms us more than anyone else.

Mindfulness offers a path to notice and release this emotion instead of letting it control us.

ЁЯМ┐ The Mindful Way of Facing Anger
When anger arises, pause and breathe. Notice how it feels in the body — the tightness in the chest, the heat in the face, the restless thoughts. Instead of reacting immediately, simply observe: “This is anger. It is here, but it is not me.”

By naming and observing the emotion, we create space between ourselves and the feeling. This space allows us to respond with clarity rather than impulse.

ЁЯМ╕ A Simple Practice

  1. The next time anger rises, pause before speaking or acting.

  2. Take three slow, deep breaths.

  3. Imagine exhaling the fire of anger and inhaling a cool, calming breeze.

  4. Ask yourself, “What outcome do I really want in this moment?”

Over time, mindfulness teaches us that letting go of anger does not mean ignoring it. It means acknowledging it, understanding it, and releasing it so it doesn’t weigh down our hearts.

ЁЯТб Remember: Holding onto anger is like carrying a burning coal — the longer you hold it, the more it burns you. Mindfulness is the hand that helps you gently let it go.
